Mentality problem, or just a case of ignorance?

I start my post today after talking to one of my friends. He stated that sejarah in school favored Muslims/Malays, so here's my thoughts on it. Mind you, this is not a racist post and is only aimed at people that just don't get 'it'. Well, he claimed that the Islamic chapters favored the Malay students but here's the thing; we also learned about the reformation of the Church of England and the birth of Protestants and Martin Luther the Protestant movement around Europe. These topics might have little or no connection to me as a Malay and a Muslim but I find it interesting to learn so I find it highly disappointing when non-Malays blame their lack of wanting to know history on the Muslim related chapters in sejarah. Not to mention during highchool, some of my non-Malay blew my results away with what they got showing that it wasn't the chapters but the interest in sejarah. It justs annoys me how things like this show how divided we really are in this country, I taught some of my Chinese friends about the Ottoman Empire and Islam's arrival in South East Asia and they appreciated the knowledge but there are fools out there who reject this and say that this country only focuses on the Malays even when its a trivial matter such as the sejarah subject. Pooh. Same goes to the people who want to increase the subjects learnt in English, there's already maths, add maths, physics, chemistry, bio, please don't tell me that's not enough. Think about it, if we change EVERYTHING to English where would our Bahasa go? We'd be no better than Singaporeans trying to be more Western than Westerners. Using English for almost everything and forgetting their roots as if it was last week's leftovers in the fridge. I'm not saying that Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil, etc should be undermined in this country but please have the courtesy as a MALAYSIAN to atleast KNOW and UNDERSTAND the  national language and respect certain things. Capiche?

Full of life or just full of it.

I now its been ages since I last blogged and for that i apologize. I felt that I had nothing really relevant to share with you people but maybe I do now.. I think. Welllllllllll, I guess life has been treating me fairly these days, nothing shitty has come my way except the fact that I recently screwed up 2 easy tests but I guess its not so bad, by the way, make that one since my lovely engineering maths lecturer allowed the ones who did 'bad' to redo the test. Yeay! Although she limited the maximum marks for the retest to 80% I'm not complaining at all.

Now, we're heading to the last phase of the sem. Scary as hell. Feels like everything is going to wind up, 2 weeks break and after that we're going to be at it again. Sigh. I'm not saying life is predictable but in this sense it is. I just hope I don't stumble again and have to repeat a subject. GAH! If all goes well and ends well I'll have a diploma in mech engineering by mid 2011 *gives a far away look*. Then, I guess, the real battle begins. I haven't even put a finger on where I plan to go after this. Overseas looks too surreal and to do my degree here.. well, I just don't know where to go. I guess I'll just go to an edu fair and find out, LOL.

Anyway, I think i'm going to wrap up my ramblings with a series of pictures from what I've been doing lately, till then, toodles!

College trip to the Nissan factory!

Colllege!

More College!

And.. College! (see how I am loved)

Insensatez.

This was a song written by the late Tom Jobim and sang by multiple artists with him including Sting, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day. I'm blogging about it because I don't think many people have listened to it but I think it beats many of the songs out there today with its lyrics and somewhat touching instrumental music inspired by Tom Jobim. Just check it out if you have the time~

Time goes by relatively fast.

Its the 20th of freaking December. It seems like the holidays blew right past me. In about 15 days I'll be back in college. That's not really a nice thing because I slipped up on one subject the past sem and that is really going to come back to haunt me. Well, I'm hoping on one thing though, because I slipped up this sem means that I can't take the continuing subject next sem. Then I'll have to the resit the initial paper on another sem. Thus, next sem i'll have 1 less paper! Then hopefully my mom wouldn't be so pissed. She'd be blazing if she had to pay a few more hundred bucks for my lack of mathematical talent. Sometimes I, myself, wonder why I took this course. Really, I love almost everything that is a product of what I'm studying yet the learning process exposes my weakness in numericals. Truth be told, I'm more a reading person. Hard to believe? I know, but I have a knack of remembering facts and I'm more ready to pick up a book and read than to pick up a pencil and calculator to practice math. My mom being a history graduate seems to influence me a bit. I'm already a semester done with my course, I guess i'll just have to rough it out. And let's pray I get through it yeah?

Memoirs.

Hey guys, sorry for the long absence. I realized I haven't blogged about some stuff that happened recently just because I'm lazy. I really am. Too lazy to write it all out but I'm kinda sure that it doesn't seem that interesting to you because these are the kinda 'normal' things that happen day in and day out. Anyways! Instead of focusing on the future, let's look back at the past.

One of my most memorable events was my last school sports day. It is kinda depressing now thinking about it. I loved the atmosphere, the friends, the teammates and the teachers who helped through it all. Not to be boastful, I was the 'chairman' (pengerusi?) of my sports house, yellow, to be exact. I had the best team anybody could have with a hardworking, almost no-nonsense 'vice-chairwoman' (naib pengerusi?) Sabrina, and the gang who worked so hard, Imran, Bainin, Aqil, Abu, Yaya, Haziqah, Syamim, Ali, Yazid, Lu Wen, Alia, Fithri, Alop, Farid, Naim, and other members who contributed. In the end, we lost to Rumah Biru by one point but it was the closest yellow had got to winning in 3 years so I'm proud to have been the leader and have such a good bunch of friends. *smile*

I have a few videos of the event, I think few people know these videos exist so I'll post them here. Enjoy!

Hope you liked the clips, heee.

Sha's birthday!

Today was my girlfriend's birthday! She turned 18 today making her legal but not free from the rules which we have set in this relationship, right syg? Anyway, the planning for this event stretches wayyyyyyyy back. Actually, just one day before. It began with me asking who could come and who could not. Unfortunately, this time around our beloved friends in IPTA were having their finals, so as you have guessed, many of them were not even in Taman Tun. This vexed me as the thought of having an ever awesome crowd diminshed, and added to my frustration. If I was a mogul I'd just pay any taxi to drive them here and back for my syg's birthday but (sigh) dreams will be dreams. The place to hold the event was another thing, so I just kept it simple and asked her if we could use her place. Surprise went down the drain but atleast the place was settled. So, anyway, next problem was the cake, the night before i ran down to secret recipe to book one for tomorrow but the dude there said, "kalau gi secret recipe satu lagi ada promotion, BUY ONE FREE ONE". My mind started to wonder and I thought of Sha's happiness to be brought not one, but two cakes! So I told the guy thanks and went home to wait for midnight to wish my sweetheart a 'full of love and affection' birthday wish! We had a talk on the phone after that and after saying goodnights, went of to sleep.

Horror. Absolute horror.

That was what struck me as I got to the other secret recipe. People were pouring out of the shops, grabbing their cakes as if they were going to turn to dust without it. Let me tell you that I did plan to get there as soon as it opened but the best thing happened. I couldnt start the goddamn car. So instead of getting there at 10.30, I stumbled there about 11.30 as which the above occured. Damn. Headed back to the secret recipe near my house, gave a half grin to the dude in the store, yeah, he could guess what had happened to me. Even this other guy in his 40's tapped me and asked, "You went to the promotion place huh?", I gave a nod and we both chuckled. After that I waited for my syg to come back for college then we went to OU for a birthday outing, shopping, we went to Pasta Zanmai for a sushi lunch! Now, after that, around 7.30 p.m. I went to pick up Aqil who was sick, but still was caring enough to come for a friend's birthday (thank you Aqil!) and headed to Sha's where Sheena was there already. There we were 4 people with the cake then the funniest thing happened. Back at secret recipe, I had to insert how many candles i wanted, i put 1 big, 1 small. Yeap, we were celebrating Sha's 11th birthday because there were only 2 candles on the cake. Even she asked me, "Oi, the 1 small candle represents 8 years of my life eh?". Ok, I was laughing at myself for a while after that. Anyway, we sang the song, cut the cake, took pictures and then asked her sisters to come down when they played a cruel trick on the youngest who (not boasting here) had a crush on me. I brought the cake to her then she was so surprised she was sulking after that. That's what elder siblings do! Ok, in the middle of all that her parents came and we salam and the parents went out. After this we headed to Rasta where Sha and I had our favourite dim sum and chatted away with Aqil and Sheena who were actually both sick. Met Imran's parents there too. After that, we headed home, with me sending Aqil and Sha sending Sheena back. Quite a tiring day for me but I did it out of love for a person who's always been there for me and always will. I love you so much syg, always.
