Back to basics, back to BM.

Here we go again. Here come the racist chants. "Stupid Malays" "Lazy Malays who don't want to learn English" "Malays are lowering the standards of education in this country". Don't lie and tell me you haven't heard or read these phrases anywhere since the change was announced. It makes my blood boil and sizzle. Even though I blog in English, I have never abandoned my mother tongue and I think life is rather dull when I don't converse in it for a while. Even more ironically is that I was speaking English before I was speaking Malay but have never ever undermined my national language. Why? Because it is my identity, and yet there will always be these, Malaysian "posers" who dare call themselves Malaysian when they are openly undermining the national language as well as jeering the people who speak it.

The whole issue is large and if one desires to argue on the subject of learning science and maths in English or BM, we're going to need a very large board to place all our pro's and con's. This is where it kicks in, most people don't see this. I feel that most Malaysian's are born with a narrow mind. Why? Because time and time again we fail to see the larger picture. An example would be the poll on Tun Dr Mahathir's Blog, Che Det, which asked the people to vote whether they wanted the subjects to stay in English or revert to BM. Logically, only the people who have computers with internet access can vote, no? What about the people living in rumah kayu while still cooking using firewood with no fresh water supply? Do they have a say? When its their children who they work so hard for to send to school come home depressed to tell their parents they don't understand what their teacher is teaching at school? So in my opinion I declare the results of the poll, null, void, and useless.

It didn't stop at Che Det, there were other polls flying around and again I find it useless. Why do you want to do a poll in the city area where probably more than 80% of the inhabitants speak both languages? When you ask them then it most probably is an answer of convenience. Which language they use more or which language will make it easier for them in the future, they can afford the change either way. On the other hand, the kampung boy and girl continue to stone in class thanks to the goverment who was so enthralled by the idea of globilisation that they implemented a massive change without thinking long term and ended up looking sheepish. To the people who attack Malays for the change. Please hurry up and migrate to another country. Thanks.

Transformers

was a disappointment for me. Seriously what was Michael Bay thinking. If he wasn't a fan why did he take the bloody project in the first place, if he had no idea who the prolific Autobots were, if he had no idea what the original series was about. Turned it into a Hollywood no-brainer with no substance and a plot so full of holes rivaling a piece of old cheese. The Megan Fox wow-effect is getting old as well so he should stop cheapening movies by using chicks who can't really act and bombarding them with explosions and fight scenes, if i wanted non-end explosions i'd watch a fireworks show. I got more out of watching Star Trek, funny. And if you want to argue and call me an idiot. Please do, and please tell me why you find that this movie deserves higher than the embarrassing/humiliating/deserving score it obtained on Rotten Tomatoes.

Battlestar Galactica. A great ending to a sci-fi masterpiece.

My God. Its over. What an ending it was. Seriously. I was shaking in my chair as the 2-hour finale was showing. All the pieces were placed perfectly as all the questions left unanswered the past 3 seasons were revealed in an awe inspiring piece of story telling. To tell the truth, a few scenes brought water to my eyes.

For those of you who have no idea about this series I'll enlighten you some what. Battlestar Galactica is sci-fi story about the human race's survival against their former robotic slaves, the Cylons who after disappearing for 40 years after the first war have now evolved into flesh and metal and a new 11 models of them fully 'human' with the ability to resurrect after being killed via a resurrection ship carrying their 'spare' bodies which they download into. After reappearing the Cylon's human models not known to the humans infiltrate their defense system by inserting a virus that crippled all the battleships or 'battlestars' as well as any other defensive countermeasure thus striking with nuclear weapons across 13 worlds and unknowingly spare those who were off-planet during the attacks numbering around 50,000 survivors. The remainder of the human race is chased from their 13 planet-colonies across the universe in a variety of ships with only the protection of Battlestar Galactica, a ship of the first war which was to be decommisioned and turned into a museum but in fact it was its old systems that saved the ship from being disabled by the virus. The story continues as the foes begin to find out details about each other, details never known before, visions experienced by a select few, as well as a stronger force at hand weaves their destinies together as both their chances of survival diminish due to the ongoing war with the Cylons struggling to unravel the destiny planned for their existence and the humans struggle to find a home called 'Earth' as well as coming to the true realisation about their ever-becoming-more-mortal enemies.

If I piqued your interest, I'm not going to spoil it for you. the whole thing is 4 seasons each with 20 episodes. If you like sci-fi or hate it, just check it out because you don't know what you're missing. Science fiction story telling at its ultimate best.

Feign Idiocy.

I kinda love it when people think they're better than someone at something and can have the audacity to say it out loud. I recently read this girl's blog and she was somewhat proud of not being able to speak Malay (don't know my posts these days are centered on language) or chosing not to because English was supposedly her mother tongue and personally I found this kind of funny because her writing didn't suggest so, not that I'm saying that mine is flawless but I do alternate between BM and English because life seems better to me that way. Like some jokes are lame when told in English but are crackers when told in BM. I guess I like to keep a balance that way. The thought of learning Cantonese crossed my mind today, I guess it would make it awesomely easy to converse with some of the people at college and just to enhance my communication skills. Anyway, a new gym opened in Taman Tun called MYGYM, I went to check it out but it was closed today, dang. Before that I accompanied my girlfriend who was sick to the pasar malam, we bought fruits then headed back and that was pretty much my day today =)

Mentality problem, or just a case of ignorance?

I start my post today after talking to one of my friends. He stated that sejarah in school favored Muslims/Malays, so here's my thoughts on it. Mind you, this is not a racist post and is only aimed at people that just don't get 'it'. Well, he claimed that the Islamic chapters favored the Malay students but here's the thing; we also learned about the reformation of the Church of England and the birth of Protestants and Martin Luther the Protestant movement around Europe. These topics might have little or no connection to me as a Malay and a Muslim but I find it interesting to learn so I find it highly disappointing when non-Malays blame their lack of wanting to know history on the Muslim related chapters in sejarah. Not to mention during highchool, some of my non-Malay blew my results away with what they got showing that it wasn't the chapters but the interest in sejarah. It justs annoys me how things like this show how divided we really are in this country, I taught some of my Chinese friends about the Ottoman Empire and Islam's arrival in South East Asia and they appreciated the knowledge but there are fools out there who reject this and say that this country only focuses on the Malays even when its a trivial matter such as the sejarah subject. Pooh. Same goes to the people who want to increase the subjects learnt in English, there's already maths, add maths, physics, chemistry, bio, please don't tell me that's not enough. Think about it, if we change EVERYTHING to English where would our Bahasa go? We'd be no better than Singaporeans trying to be more Western than Westerners. Using English for almost everything and forgetting their roots as if it was last week's leftovers in the fridge. I'm not saying that Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil, etc should be undermined in this country but please have the courtesy as a MALAYSIAN to atleast KNOW and UNDERSTAND the  national language and respect certain things. Capiche?

Full of life or just full of it.

I now its been ages since I last blogged and for that i apologize. I felt that I had nothing really relevant to share with you people but maybe I do now.. I think. Welllllllllll, I guess life has been treating me fairly these days, nothing shitty has come my way except the fact that I recently screwed up 2 easy tests but I guess its not so bad, by the way, make that one since my lovely engineering maths lecturer allowed the ones who did 'bad' to redo the test. Yeay! Although she limited the maximum marks for the retest to 80% I'm not complaining at all.

Now, we're heading to the last phase of the sem. Scary as hell. Feels like everything is going to wind up, 2 weeks break and after that we're going to be at it again. Sigh. I'm not saying life is predictable but in this sense it is. I just hope I don't stumble again and have to repeat a subject. GAH! If all goes well and ends well I'll have a diploma in mech engineering by mid 2011 *gives a far away look*. Then, I guess, the real battle begins. I haven't even put a finger on where I plan to go after this. Overseas looks too surreal and to do my degree here.. well, I just don't know where to go. I guess I'll just go to an edu fair and find out, LOL.

Anyway, I think i'm going to wrap up my ramblings with a series of pictures from what I've been doing lately, till then, toodles!

College trip to the Nissan factory!

Colllege!

More College!

And.. College! (see how I am loved)

Insensatez.

This was a song written by the late Tom Jobim and sang by multiple artists with him including Sting, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day. I'm blogging about it because I don't think many people have listened to it but I think it beats many of the songs out there today with its lyrics and somewhat touching instrumental music inspired by Tom Jobim. Just check it out if you have the time~
